Symbols=ancient language, before words, words are modern day symbols now. Children may not have language, but they understand symbols, i.e. a stop sign. By the reaction of those around them they come to understand it means, don't go. Consequently, the unconscious, buried in the mind & thru ancient genetic memory, connects the dots.
